About Cary Fargo & Doug Schaeffer
Welcome > Agent Info > About Cary Fargo & Doug Schaeffer ...

We have been serving Sonoma County as Real Estate professionals and stewards of the land for nearly 50 years combined. We have extensive knowledge of this unique and beautiful area and will bring our expertise to each transaction. Above all, we promise to treat each client fairly and professionally.

Cary Fargo

A graduate of Sonoma State University with a degree in psychology, Cary is a thirty-six year resident of the west county with a background in residential construction prior to acquiring his real estate license in 1980. Specializing in rural residential properties, Cary's experience in the building trades is helpful in guiding purchasers and sellers through issues relating to country property acquisition and sale: wells, roads, grading, septic systems, structural pest concerns, the permit process etc. Cary spends much of his community involvement time protecting this gorgeous county of ours. He is the Real Estate representative for the Sonoma County Agricultural and Open Space Preservation District (One of the most successful open space protection districts in the nation). He is an active member of the Sonoma Land Trust, and has been a monitor for several of their west county conservation easements over the years.

Doug Schaeffer

With thirty-one years as a resident in the county, Doug is extremely familiar with the myriad of microclimates, neighborhoods, and regions that make Sonoma County so unique. These years as a resident, coupled with his experience as an agent, bring a great degree of expertise to the challenges inherent in purchasing country property.

"While I enjoy working with all types of real estate, I specialize in rural and country properties, from small acreage in and around town, to large ranches, and undeveloped land. Most important to me is handling every transaction with the highest level of integrity and professionalism. I work to handle all the details and complexities of each transaction, enabling a smooth and as stress-free as possible process for my clients. My goal is to make the process of buying or selling a property not only successful but ultimately enjoyable. One of the key factors in this process is not just experience and regional expertise but also communication. Keeping clients informed throughout a transaction, from writing a contract through the escrow process and even follow-up after a purchase or sale is finalized, is critical to me, and my ability to do this in a clear, straight-forward manner, has been fundamental to my success as an agent."

Real Estate Tips
Animal House >Houses and Pets

Many real estate agents are animal lovers and have pets of our own, but we have all shared stories of having our fingers or ankles nipped by furry creatures during a showing. We have opened the front door to the home we are showing only to have a purebred Persian kitten scoot toward the nearest busy street.

If you have pets and are going to put your house on the market, be sure to work out the showing arrangements carefully. It is important for us to be able to communicate to our colleagues what to expect when they pass through your front door. It is rare for pets to pose significant problems, but big dogs can be menacing. Buyers or agents may be allergic or even a little phobic about dogs or cats.

It is difficult to get a buyer excited about your home if he or she is sneezing continuously or unwilling to cross the threshold because your dog is barking away intruders. If your agent knows there might be a problem, they can arrange ahead of time for you to walk the dog, vacuum the cat dander or do whatever is necessary to make sure that the showing goes smoothly.
